So, i decided to do this challenge that [personal profile] pensnest made for the Snowflake Challenge.

I started with 9 entries I wanted to use, but I wittled it down to five, and I think these ones give a decent overview of who I am.

Since I'm new to Snowflake this year, I'm going to borrow a few people's ideas for inspiration. The first one I'm borrowing is from [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith, to offer multiple challenges (in this case, some fannish and some not), so that people have a variety to choose from. Also because I have multiple ideas *laugh*

Fannish
Read a new fandom
My first challenge is to read a fic from a fandom you've never read before. New things can be exciting, and I've found great content this way.

Leave a comment on a fic
This one seems to be pretty popular, but I figured I'd say it here too, because I know how much comments can mean to authors and creators. So if you see a fanwork you really like, step out of the shadows and let the creator know!
*Bonus points if you leave the comment on the work from a new fandom.

From an idea from [personal profile] shipperslist about imagining your characters as art/desserts:

Imagine If
What kind of animal would your favourite character(s) be? Explain why, if you want to.

Not Fannish

Try a new recipe
On the non-fandom side, try baking or cooking something new. I tend more towards baking myself, but I know many people like to cook. So, branch out, try something new, maybe a new cuisine or a new technique or just a recipe you've been wanting to try for a while but never got around to. If you generally bake instead of cook or vice versa, this is also a good opportunity to try something new, although perhaps start simple if baking (or cooking) is your enemy.

I hope you'll give one of these a try and perhaps even find something you like. :D I shall be leaving a comment myself as soon as I do them.

Challenge 13.

In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, wild times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I don't have specific details, but I think my favourite fandom memory is this first time I got a reply to a comment I left on a story I liked. I know it's usually the authors who squee over comments, but there's still something special about getting a reply, and I think that's still my favourite part about fandom, and DW. Being able to interact with creators and other fans and have a discussion or just mutual squeeing over things we share in common.

Challenge #12

In your own space, tell us who you would recast in a film, tv series or webseries, or maybe someone voicing a cartoon or videogame. Or who would you cast to play a character in a book, comic or maybe even your own fiction! Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I wasn't sure where I was gonna go with this, because I don't know a lot of actors and I don't watch a lot of movies, but I figured out what to do. Not sure it's gonna make logical sense, but hey, when most of my thought process was "Ooo, hot badasses," I'm not sure logic really factored into it. XD

I love Benedict Cumberbatch in BBC's Sherlock and Dr. Strange. I think would be really cool to see him as James Bond, or perhaps a Bond villain. I think he'd be good at it, and it would be fun to watch, especially since I'm used to seeing him as crazy smart, witty and handsome. And if not Bond, perhaps he'd make a good Q...

And the second recast is actually sorta related. I love Clint Barton and Phil Coulson, espceially fanfic, and I quite enjoy Jeremy Renner and Clark Gregg in their portrayals of the characters. I think it would be interesting to see the two of them cast as John Watson and Sherlock homes, respectively, in the BBC series. I feel like it would make for a really intriguing dynamic.

I'm going to use my most recent Comfort Corner post for this one. It is a space for friendly interaction and virtual cuddles, based on [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith's Cuddle Party posts. There's been decent activity this time around, and I post them every 1st and 3rd Sunday (and 5th if there is one). Feel free to come check it out if you like. There is no obligation to participate, and no deadline for leaving comments, even if you feel inspired to comment the day before the next Comfort Corner is set to go up.

I've also been doing my best to respond to comments as they come in, and I've interacted with a few people from Snowflake, so there's that too. Feel free to drop by and say hi, on whichever post you feel comfortable doing so, if you are so inclined. :)

Hockey Stories

I'm going to start by saying that I would recommend the whole Back Up There series by scribe-Tuesday, but I'm going to put my three favourites here. (Feel free to read the whole thing if it grabs you!)

Be More Bob by scribe-Tuesday
What starts out as a "confuse the rookie" prank turns into an actual superstition. This is really cute and the prank isn't mean-spirited at all.

Consequences by scribe-Tuesday
"Life just works, when somebody else makes the decisions. If Seb’s secure at home, he’s steady everywhere else - including on the ice. He never wanted to cope by himself. He never thought he’d have to. Holding everything together is harder than he’d thought. He can’t do it on his own, and the cracks are starting to show.
Josh has never been any good at minding his own business." This is a BDSM story, but not an m/m story. I find all the topics to be handled really well, and I enjoy it quite a lot. Definitely the one I've re-read the most in this series.

And the Little One Said / Glitter by scribe-Tuesday
A story about a single father and a drag queen. Various pairings in this one, but mostly a slice-of-life fic. If you want more diversity in your fic, this one has lots. :)

To Be Seen Aright by Deastar
This is a BDSM AU Sid/Geno story. There are some prevailing prejudices and quite a few internalized prejudices on Sid's part, but the main relationship ends up being good and solid. For all the tricky points in this story, I think it is really well handled, and I encourage you to give it a try, if you like the general categories. Please do mind any tags and your headspace though, as I've cried on each of my read throughs, even though there is a happy ending.

Avengers

We Found Love in a Hopeless Place by thekaidonovskys
BDSM AU Phil/Clint slash. Another BDSM AU one. I really like this one, because the relationship is so thoroughly explored, and we get to see a lot of the wider universe as well. This is a series with 18 stories so far, but it felt right to rec the whole thing instead of just the first work.

Professional Distortion by anachronic
Eventual Phil/Clint where Phil works at a high end sex store and Clint is a professional masochistic, sort of. If you like kinky & sexy fun times, this story is for you; I know I've read it about 4 or 5 times so far.

Stars and Stones by raiining
An Avengers/Dresden Files AU with Phil being Clint's mentor for magical things. So good!

The Underground by raiining
A story where Clint goes undercover at a BDSM club but is given shoddy intel and Phil rides to the rescue in spectacular fashion.

Let It Go by cakeisnotpie
Phil gets drugged and he and Clint end up confessing their feelings and proclivities to each other. This one is once again kinky and wonderful, and the issue of consent is handle very well, because Shield has all the forms.

Safe and (the) Sound by tisfan and 27dragons
A Bucky/Tony story where Bucky owns a diner and Tony ends up working for him. Various other Avengers make appearances as well. Also, I highly recommend checking out their other stuff, both individually and coauthored; they are awesome.

There are probably more stories I could and should rec, but these are the ones on the top of my brain... One more!

Love is for Children by ysabetwordsmith
An awesome beginning to an awesome series that is full of nonsexual age play, trustbuilding and teamfamily.

Okay. I'm probably still missing a bunch, but this is what I have for now. I hope you find something you like!

Challenge #8

In your own space, celebrate a personal win from the past year: it can be a list of fanworks you're especially proud of, a gift of your time to the community, a quality or skill you cultivated in yourself, something you generally feel went well. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

At first I wasn't sure what to put for this one, and then I actually thought about 2021 and a few things came to me.

First (and this is one I almost forgot about), in January 2021, I participated in the Fresh Starts bingo fest on [community profile] allbingo. Not only did I manage a blackout bingo on my first card, I started a second one and managed a decent amount of fills there too. All of what was written was original content, and I think they were all poems, but I think it's the most writing I've ever done and I'm really happy with how it turned out. I also used quite a variety of poetic forms, many I've never used before, so it was good to stretch my skills in that way too.

Second (this one I'm super proud of and was my first thought) I made a temperature blanket last summer. I crocheted one square for every day of June, July, and August, changing colours depending on how hot it was. I then stitched all the squares together and made a border using the last two days of August. I'm so happy with how it turned out! It was a lot of work, but I got it all done, and I did everything start to finish myself, with my sister consulting on colours to make sure everything played nice together. I have a fews posts with individual squares and patterns, but I am still aiming to make a giant post with the finished product, if anyone felt like seeing (or replicating) the whole process.

Third (on a personal front) I got a therapist this year after hemming and hawwing for quite awhile and it's helping. I managed to find a good one and she's given me some really good resources, so I'm glad I decided to take the step of seeking professional help to straighten out a few things in my head and gain some skills I've been missing.

Challenge #7

In your own space, tell us about 3 fandom resources, spaces, or communities you use or enjoy. (One or two is fine, especially if you're in a smaller fandom!) Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I don't have many fandom resources, because I mostly just read fanfic and use the filter feature on AO3. However, there are some related resources that I use frequently, so I'll share those here.

Reading Resources
First: "Love is for Children" by [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith. This is an Avengers fandom series that centers around non-sexual ageplay and team-family. It is a thoroughly enjoyable read, has a good mix of fluff and hurt/comfort, and has so many amazing resources linked, including many for trauma, PTSD, and other psychological problems.

Another excellent source of supplementary links is the Polychrome Heroics series, especially the Shiv thread, also by [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith. Be warned, this is an absolutely MASSIVE amount of content, and tends to be like flypaper for eyeballs. Some of it can also be quite intense, particularly in the Shiv thread, so be mindful of your headspace and preferences. It is excellent original fiction though, with superheroes and supervillains that are much more complex than just people who punch things, and there are so many resources for therapy exercises, making your town and the world a better place, and all kinds of inter/intrapersonal skills that you need to get through life.

Writing Resources
If anyone is into writing poetry, or just needs some inspiration for a new form of work, this list of short poetic forms is fantastic. There are familiar ones as well as ones I'd never heard of before, and perusing this list gave me a whole lot of ideas for writing short things early last year. Link found courtesy of [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith (are you noticing a theme yet)?

Another great resource for writing is the [community profile] allbingo community. There are themes every month, it's a low pressure, high encouragement zone, and it's a great way to get prompts if you often find yourself stuck for ideas or just want some new ones. It works well for both fandoms and original works, and you can even host a bingo fest of your own if you want to see something in particular. After answering the Snowflake Challenge about AUs, the idea of a SHIELD/NCIS crossover popped into my head, so I'm going to try to put that in words. I'm not sure how well it will go, but I want to give an attempt at writing it, and not just explain what the idea was. I will leave an AO3 style summary/tag cloud though, so that there is some idea of what you're getting into.

Challenge #5

In your own space, talk about an idea you wish you had the time / talent / energy to do. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Snowflake Challenge promotional banner featuring a wrapped giftbox with a snowflake on the gift tag. Text: Snowflake Challenge January 1-31

Oh jeez. I don't even know where to start with this one. I think mine is going to be more geberal, rather than a specific idea I wish I could do. I really wish I was better at plot consistency and linear storytelling. I've written some poems that I think turned out pretty well, but when I try to write stories or anything with plot, I have a hard time with logic and getting from A to B without skipping a bunch of steps and having the whole thing be jarring.

I'd alao really like to make a quilt but I'm missing a lot of skills for that too. This one at least feels more in my wheel house. I can knit and crochet, so a quilt doesn't feel so far out of reach.

In general, I need more staying power and follow through. I tend to be really into things at first, devoting a lot of time and energy to them, but then interest and drive fall off. Things I genuinely like (like knitting) will go in cycles, so I'll work on something a lot, then not touch it for months, then come back to it and so on. This can make it hard to finish projects, or get through a backlog of things I want to get done.

Challenge #4

In your own space, make a list of things that you wish existed in fandom or elsewhere, and/or that you'd like someone to create or do for you. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Snowflake Challenge promotional banner featuring feet in snuggly socks, a mug of hot chocolate, a notebook with 'dreams' written on the cover, and a guitar. Text: Snowflake Challenge January 1-31.

This is my first time doing something like this, so I'm not quite sure what to put.

I can always use more things to read, so fic recs are welcome. I'm open to maybe fandoms, though Avengers, Harry Potter, NCIS, Pacific Rim, Sherlock, and the Three Musketeers are what I read most often. I'm also open to lots of different content, but I do prefer M/M stories, works that include BDSM and fiction that is on the gentler side, rather than lots of violence and gore. If there is sex involved, I won't read non-con or rape; it messes with my head.

Also, if anyone feels like writing things, I have a few ideas for fics I'd enjoy:
-anything NCIS, there aren't nearly enough fanfics
-any Clint/Coulson stories, especially if they are in some kind of BDSM relationship
-Avengers ensemble fic, either genfic or something more x-rated
-Harry Potter fic where Severus lives and is not a heartless bastard. Bonus points if there is a Harry/Severus relationship or some kind; platonic or otherwise.

Challenge #3

In your own space, put some favorite characters into an AU, fuse some favorite canons together, talk about your favorite AU/fusion tropes, or tell us why AU/fusions aren’t your cup of tea. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Snowflake Challenge promotional banner with image of skier kicking up snow on a snow white background. Text: Snowflake Challenge January 1-31.

I don't create my own fanworks, so I don't have any AUs of my own, but I do enjoy reading them when others do it. It can be fun to see familiar characters in unfamiliar settings and see how that changes things. I've seen some really cool no powers-artist AUs with Steve and the Avengers cast. The only thing that bugs me is that sometimes the AUs aren't tagged very well, so I sometimes don't know which bits of canon have been kept; especially when some characters keep their abilities while others don't.

I'm not sure I have any favourite AUs or characters but I have probably read the most Marvelverse/Avengers AUs. I think the ones I like the best are the ones where Steve is some kind of artist as a career, or the ones where the characters are thrown into kinky things (there are a few really good BDSM AU type stories with Phil and Clint).

I made a post about my goals here. A lot of these are repeats from last year, but there are some new ones too. Fannish goals... I want to create at least one fanfic this year, perhaps diversify in my choices of reading (I tend to stick to a lot of the same fansom/pairing/tags), and interact more with creators, since I have a tendency to just lurk most of the time.

Challenge 1

In your own space, update your fandom information! Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Snowflake Challenge promotional banner with image of gingerbread Christmas trees, a silver ball, a tea light candle and a white confectionary snowflake on a beige falling-snowflakes background. Text: Snowflake Challenge January 1-31.

Hi, I'm Fuzzyred and I'm going to start off by saying that this is my first time doing the Snowflake challenge and I'm inexplicably nervous, so bare with me if I start rambling or if I don't reply to comments right away.

About me... I love to read, I like baking, rollerblading, biking, swimming, horseback riding, knitting, crocheting, spending time with family, doing puzzles, learning languages, and yoga. I dabble in cooking and gardening, although those skills are still in the acquisition phase and more out of necessity than any great passion.

Fandoms I like include Harry Potter, NCIS, Sherlock, Three Musketeers, Marvelverse (mostly Avengers), and Hockey RPF, though I will read any variety of things if the content piques my interest. Occassionally this leads to confusion on my part, because I will be lacking important canon knowledge (or any cannon knowledge) but I've found some great stories and fandoms this way, so I'm going just keep jumping in and hoping for the best.

I don't create much fanwork myself, although I consume copius amounts of it. In recent months I have gotten more into writing, so there might be fanfics in the future, but so far everything has been original content, what little I have written.

I'm an introvert and kind of shy and (in my mind) very awkward around new people, so I might not always be the fastest to respond or the most outgoing, but I promise I don't bite and I do enjoy making news friends. I'm off to check that my profiles are up-to-date, both here and on AO3 (NCIS_Sherlock for anyone interested), because it's been awhile since I looked at them. Feel free to leave a comment if you want to say ho, and I'll do my best to respond in a timely manner.
