Well, it was a week. We are switching to a 2 weeks days, 2 weeks afternoons schedule in the new year at work. This would be okay, except now there are just two groups of technicians. This means I'll never see half of my department any more, except maybe for a minute or two at shift change. The especially crappy part is that my favourite coworker (who feels pretty close to a best friend) is in the other group, and not seeing them anymore is really gonna suck.

In other news, completing this post keeps my streak of dailies alive, I'm pretty much caught up on the cleaning for my family get together this Sunday, and I'm making decent progress on the blanket for my niece. I'm behind on the number of rows I wanted to have done (I was aiming for 20 a day and I'm about one day behind) but I'm actually still on target with the number of inches I wanted to have done, so I'm not in terrible shape. Hopefully, tomorrow and Saturday offer me enough time to both knit and finish up all the cleaning duties for Sunday.

Mini rant about song lyrics:
On the way home from work today, the song "I'll Name the Dogs" by Blake Shelton was on the radio. Now, I like this song but I was in a certain kind of mood this afternoon, and his song had me really wishing I could sing, because I want to sing this song. A little background: this song is about a man who's in love with a woman and wants to start a family with her, which is great. But he spends the whole song saying "I'll do this, you'll do that" (frex "You'll pick the paint, I'll pick a guitar"), and the activities follow "typical" gender roles. The line that started the whole thing is, "You'll be the pretty, I'll be the funny." I resent the pervasive feeling that women should just be pretty, and do the domestic stuff, while men do the rest. So. I would love to change the one spot where he says "girl" to say "boy" and sing this as a woman singing to a man. Except I can't sing, so I'll have to think of something else. But seriously, maybe *I* want to find the money while *you* find the spot.

Okay, I'm getting off the soap box now. I'm really looking forward to the Christmas break and the chance to have some time off. I hope y'all are still doing well, and that you all have a fantastic celebration season.

Gender roles suck. Also, I can hear [personal profile] ignitedsky behind me yelling, ŸES! Or sing it as an LGBTQ couple!"They love screwing with gender roles, and though we bodily don't think we're a good singer, they can sing. But we don't know the song, so I'ma go listen to it.

YES! Gender roles are so 20th century!

I'm the cook. N's the manager. (Both of our genders are a little squishy anyway.)

Also, there's a big difference in "equality" and "equity"... N *can't* do all the cooking and laundry and stuff. (Well, she's getting better at it, but still, nowhere near like I can.) What she *can* do is do all the planning and organisation and research and *teaching* to keep this place on the rails.

I know who I'd love to see sing it, if I could convince one of the two to do it... Emma and Lauren are a couple who (bravely!) live in Tennessee... Lauren is lesbian; Emma is pan (and erasure is a Thing)... they just bought a house together... (yes, this is public, I'm not outing anyone!) Emma is a published artist, and Lauren is a banjo-playing singer... if we could get Emma out from behind the camera, I think it would be gorgeous to see those two do the song. (Not that I want to push Emma too hard! that would be *wrong*.)

I saw a meme yesterday: "Give her what she *really* wants this season: Smash the patriarchy, and Real Pockets in all her dresses and pants!" (acknowledging both that the Season has many different Holidays, AND that AFAB people WEAR PANTS. <3 )
